Position Summary:

Facilities Management & Planning is responsible for the care and maintenance of 5 million square feet of academic, administrative & athletic facilities, on a 388 acre urban campus. Employee will perform a wide range of locksmith duties, including but not limited to: the installation, maintenance and repair of locks, doors and door hardware throughout university property. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods, materials and equipment used in locks, types and uses of available locks, and safety practices and procedures. Locksmith shall respond to emergency after-hours/weekend service calls. Locksmith shall take advantage of training opportunities to improve institutional locksmithing skills.

Minimum Qualifications:

•High school diploma or GED equivalent
•2-years documented experience working as a locksmith
•Individual must have a valid drivers license and be insurable by the University, which includes maintaining a low-risk driving record.
•Ability to read, write, and comprehend English, and make simple math calculations
•Ability to follow detailed instructions, both oral and written
•Knowledge of the standard methods, procedures, and various types of locks and tools used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of locks, doors and hardware
•Skill in the use and operation of various hand and power hardware tools.
•Basic computer skills to include the utilization of basic Windows Operating Systems applications.
•Must be able to work alone or with other craft-persons.
•Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of a locksmith

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

•Locksmith certification from a formal school or certifying organization
•Knowledge of locks and various door hardware devices
•Skill in diagnosing the cause of lock and door malfunctions
•Ability to read and understand blueprints
•Knowledge of Maximo software to monitor daily job work order tasks
•Experience with various master key systems

Special Instructions to Applicants:

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.

The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our protocols and requirements are subject to change depending on conditions on campus or in our community, and government requirements.
