Position Summary:

The position provides engineering support for aircraft and vehicle sustainment technology development and transition including aircraft, vehicle, and ground support equipment maintenance.

This role will:
Support design, manufacturing, and test/validation of repair procedures for advanced manufacturing technologies. The ideal candidate will support technicians on material characterization of cold spray and additive manufacturing material deposits used in repair and sustainment of parts for aircraft, vehicle, and ground support equipment. Assist in planning, coordinating, developing, and executing test protocols, experiments, process characterization and process validations on new and revised products and processes. This applicant will be responsible for writing and updating technical data packages for repairs, as well as other required documentation. Additionally, they will consult with or provide technical advice to team members regarding product and process issues. They will also develop and complete training for additive manufacturing, cold spray, and/or advanced and traditional manufacturing processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

R1:
• BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Materials or Chemical Engineering or related engineering field).
• 2 years engineering/technical process design, additive manufacturing, cold spray, or advanced manufacturing technologies with an emphasis on testing and validation of process and product.
• Proven ability to create, read and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
• Mobile cold spray system knowledge and understanding of system configuration, requirements, and design
• Working knowledge of the production processes for cold spray to design and support repairs for the USAF
• Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

R2:
• BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial, Materials or Chemical Engineering or related engineering field).
• 4 years of experience in the design and/or transition of technology to a validated manufacturing process/operation in the automotive or aerospace industries.
• Working knowledge with various manufacturing processes such as casting, NC machining, forging, heat treat, thermal spray, cold spray, and additive manufacturing for metals and/or plastics.
• Working knowledge of materials testing standards and procedures.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modeling software and ability to generate drawing in accordance with ASTM Y14.5
• Experience using the mobile cold spray system to scale and support the USAF complete repairs.
• Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
• Proficient in Excel and other MS Office Suite programs.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

R1
• 4 years of engineering/technical experience with cold spray, thermal spray, additive manufacturing, or other advanced manufacturing techniques
• 4 years of experience with creating and executing component and system level validation and qualification test plans, as well as analysis of test data and results.

R2:
• 6 years of engineering/technical experience with cold spray, thermal spray, additive manufacturing, or some other advanced manufacturing technology.
• 6 years of experience in the qualification of components and transition of technology to a validated manufacturing process/operation in automotive or aerospace industries.
• 6 years of experience with creating and executing component and system level validation and qualification test plans, as well as analysis of test data and results.
• 3 years’ experience with Solidworks 3D CAD modeling.
• Expert level knowledge of the Mobile Cold Spray Systems and how they are utilized.
• Demonstrated understanding of cold spray process variables (e.g., particle velocity, temperature, gas selection) and their effects on material performance and bonding.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills, demonstrated at all levels of an organization.
