Position Summary:

The Data Modeler plays a critical role in the development and implementation of a data management strategy that supports the organization's strategic goals and operational needs. This individual will be responsible for ensuring data integrity, creating physical data models, and optimizing data storage and retrieval processes.

In addition to the responsibilities of the Data Modeler position, the Senior Data Modeler role takes on greater responsibilities for shaping data management. This includes working with cross-functional teams to gather business requirements and translate them into efficient and scalable data architectures; designing conceptual and logical data models; and informing, defining, and documenting data governance standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum requirements for the Data Modeler
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least two years professional experience in a data management related field.
• At least two years experience writing SQL.
• Relational and dimensional data modeling, database design, and performance tuning skills.
• Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
• Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

A Senior Data Modeler must meet all Data Modeler minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below.
• At least five years professional experience in a data management related field.
• At least five years experience writing SQL.
• Understanding of source and target data structures, ETL processes, and products.
• Experience with systems analysis functions with emphasis on translating business needs into technical solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• An understanding of data governance princiiples and standards, e.g. Educause's HERM.
• Working knowledge of data warehousing design principles.
• Experience working with data in the Higher Education industry.
• Experience working with Ellucian Banner, Salesforce, and/or Canvas data.
• Experience working with a CI/CD environment and tools, particularly Git.
• Ability to work with users at all levels of the organization.
