Position Summary: The incumbent will conduct research in environmental microbiology applying microbiological and molecular tools for microbial screening and evaluation; microbial identification and quantification from large-scale fuel samples using sequencing, culture plating, multiplex qPCR and metagenomics. The incumbent will also assist in other research projects such as molecular and cellular characterization of microbial biofilms and biocontrol; collecting, analyzing and interpreting data; and preparing research reports from different experiments.
Minimum Qualifications:

M.S. degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biomolecular sciences, biochemistry or related field. Experience with BSL 2 microbiological techniques. Conventional microbiological techniques including bacterial and fungal cultivation, culture plating, microbial quantification, microbial cell counting, and live/dead cells. Molecular and cellular biology techniques including DNA cloning, PCR, multiplex qPCR, DNA/RNA extraction, and light/fluorescent/confocal microscopy. Excellent organization skills and ability to handle multiple project tasks. Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in writing and presenting technical reports and/or peer-reviewed publications. Hands-on experience in environmental microbiology and molecular biology such as microbial screening, microbial identification, biocontrol, and quantification/characterization of microbial biofilms. Experience in metagenomics and/or microbiomics. General understanding of NGS and bioinformatics. Good knowledge of molecular biology principles, tissue culture and genetic transformation. Capability to work an R&D team environment.
