Position Summary:

THE UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work invites applications for a nine-month Lecturer position for the 2021-22 academic year, with possibility for renewal. This position begins August 16, 2021. The teaching load is four courses per semester, with possible courses including Principles of Sociology, Marriages and Families, Racial and Ethnic Relations, and Sociology of Gender.

Minimum Qualifications:

● M.A. in Sociology or a related field, or 36 hours of graduate coursework toward a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related social science field
● Experience teaching undergraduate students in sociology as instructor of record
● Effective written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following

● Ph.D. in Sociology
● Focus on Social Justice in teaching
● Evidence of teaching effectiveness
● Successful experience in teaching online
● Ability to successfully employ active learning strategies to foster and maintain student engagement in both in-person and any online courses.
● Ability to complement the department’s focus on local and global communities
● An appreciation for the Catholic and Marianist educational values of inclusivity, community, and educating the whole person
● Effective presentation skills
● Effective interpersonal communication skills

Special Instructions to Applicants:

Candidates will be required to upload a cover letter addressing teaching goals and pedagogy, how social justice is integrated in their teaching and scholarship, as well as a list of classes taught and the level of responsibility for course content (e.g., teaching assistant, instructor of record). Candidates are also asked to submit a curriculum vitae, sample syllabus of an undergraduate social science course, teaching evaluations, and contact information for three references. Letters of references will be requested of candidates at the interview stage. If a graduate degree is not conferred, please include copies of your unofficial transcript.
