Position Summary:

This position is located at the UDRI Hangar 01 facility supporting the Air Force Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO). The RSO increases mission readiness by rapidly identifying, applying and scaling technology essential to the operation and sustainment of the U.S. Air Force. Hangar 01 is the lead in bringing together a comprehensive network of new technological methods, processes, and techniques. Success comes from our teamwork and mutual respect for each other’s talents and unique perspectives.

This is a combined role managing the facility and supporting the various RSO labs housed in the facility. The facility is 30,000 square feet, approximately half office space and half presentation/demonstration areas. The facility is new in 2021 and currently requires managing recurring maintenance actions with contracted service providers (examples: electrical, HVAC, alarm system), scoping and sourcing new work (examples: additional furniture, office modifications, additional electrical service), and supporting emergent issues (examples: leaks, cracked windows, moving equipment). The labs support new product evaluation and one-off work and contain equipment like bandsaws, drill presses, grinders, sanders, hand tools, and desktop 3D printers. The demonstration space contains a Haas CNC Mini Mill.

Responsibilities include:
• Coordinating service and maintenance work (HVAC, electrical, plumbing)
• Selecting and sourcing new work (scheduled and unscheduled)
• Equipment installation and maintenance (or contracting for services)
• Installation of new outlets, air lines, doors, locks, and various equipment as needed
• Use of all Tools and equipment in a safe and efficient manner
• Training others (typically intermittent lab users) on tool use, safety, processes, and procedures (drill press, bench grinder, disk sander, hand held electric saws, compressors and air tools, hand tools, and polymer FDM 3D printer)
• Leading and assisting lab users with problem solving to create outcomes in alignment with their requests
• Knowledge of tool set-up, maintenance, maintaining a small tool crib, and the ability to help select new tools based on quality, cost, and function are important skills for this position
• Creating and maintaining the lab safety program, new user training, maintaining a trained user matrix, and user supervision (as required).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associates degree in applicable field (Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Technology or equivalent)
• 8 years of experience in operating/setting up/fixturing and maintaining/managing typical machine shop machinery, hand tools, and other shop equipment
• 8 years facilities engineering or maintenance management experience
• 5 years hands on equipment maintenance/installation, facilities maintenance or skilled construction trade experience
• 2 years of experience working with CAD/CAE software
• 2 years min experience with leading contraction/renovation projects
• Working knowledge of lab safety programs, and user training and documentation
• Experience with developing training for equipment and training end users
• Demonstrated experience with coordination of facility repairs/upgrades
• Demonstrated experience with preventative & general maintenance of building and related equipment
• Demonstrated familiarity with local and national building codes and other national code compliance
• Ability to create, read, and interpret models, technical drawings, schematics, and computer generated reports with working knowledge of GD&T standards
• Facility safety/security management experience
• Attention to detail and hands-on work ethic
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Self-motivated with ability to work with no supervision
• Effective verbal communication skills with team members at all levels
• Demonstrated capability working in a fast paced, team environment
• US Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelors’ degree
• 8+ years of experience in operating/setting up/fixturing and maintaining/managing typical machine shop machinery, hand tools, and other shop equipment
• 2+ years of experience as a machine shop/lab manager
• 2+ years of experience working with CAD/CAE software
• 2+ years of hands on experience with polymer FDM additive manufacturing
• 2+ years of experience working with and leading lab safety programs. And user training and documentation
• Demonstrated experience with polymer FDM additive manufacturing
• Possess motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies.
