Position Summary:

The Financial Aid Compliance and Operations Counselor plays a critical role in supporting EM’s efforts to enroll and graduate students. We are looking for a talented individual who values excellence with team members and students and is able to solve problems to advance the mission of the division and the university.

Reporting to the Associate Director, Compliance the Financial Aid Compliance and Operations Counselor is expected to think strategically and critically regarding student financial aid needs and plays a critical role in proactively meeting service needs on a daily basis. This position directly contributes to the accuracy of financial aid information by reviewing key reports and updating student records in a timely manner. Responsibilities include coordinating federal and state aid programs, including emergency assistance, supporting key processes including packaging, FAFSA review and loan processes. This individual is expected to use problem-solving skills on a daily basis. Additionally, this individual will work collaboratively within the Office of Financial Aid to address pressing service and operational needs. To ensure equity in service and processes, this individual creates and updates respective documentation to drive consistency in financial aid updates.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or 3 years experience working in financial aid with progressive growth in responsibilities
At least 1 year of experience providing service in a professional, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
The ability to work with multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have the ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Higher Education or Business is preferred
Enrollment Management or Higher Education experience at a private University
Strong customer-oriented approach and the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with families and students of diverse backgrounds
Strong oral communication skills
Demonstrated use of analytical skills to assess and evaluate student scenarios in order to provide appropriate education and counseling
Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with a variety of constituents and evidence of strong interpersonal skills
Demonstrated knowledge of internal controls, compliance and audit concepts
Proven use of analytic skills to implement systematic controls and processes
Demonstrated ability to understand and make complex decisions
Knowledge of Title IV Programs and federal financial aid regulations
Knowledge and experience with Ellucian Banner software and Salesforce CRM environments
Ability to work with staff, students and families in a manner consistent with Catholic and Marianist values and principles
