Position Summary: Under the direction of the General Manager of Dining Services, the Assistant General Manager is a working manager that is responsible and accountable for all operational aspects of the dining facility which include food production, menu/recipe creation, training and staff development, purchasing, bargaining unit and staff scheduling, and safety and security. Responsible for overall food quality. Ensures food safety and sanitation standards are being met. Ensures guest satisfaction. Develops a working relationship with all levels of staff. Must be currently Managerially ServSafe certified or within one (1) year of hire. Must be self motivated, creative and innovative with the ability to see opportunities in challenges. Must be able to act as the General Manager in any of the department's units in the event the General Manager is absent.
Minimum Qualifications:

Two (2) year degree from an accredited university in either Business, Culinary Arts or Restaurant Management/ Hospitality and three (3) years managerial experience in restaurant, hospital or university food service management.

In lieu of educational requirement, five (5) years of progressive managerial experience in restaurant, hospital or university food service will be considered.

Experience with current industry production processes.

Working knowledge of all usual industrial kitchen equipment and their functions to assure proper use and training for all employees as well as proper maintenance of items.

Verified managerial experience.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Strong written communication skills.

Available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Valid driver's license, ability to maintain low risk driving record, and is insurable by the University.

Experience with POS system.

Ability to lift 50 pounds as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

Four (4) year degree from an accredited university with a major in Culinary Arts, Institutional Management, Business or Restaurant Management.

Experience working with students as clients as well as employees.

Managerial working background in a union environment.

Experience in scheduling forty or more employees according to union contract.

Demonstrated successful experience in C Bord or comparable food management software program.

Proficient in Kronos or similar time keeping software. Proficient in PageUp or similar HR software.

Demonstrated knowledge in current health code food handling and safety procedures.

Demonstrated expertise of working and communicating with various constituencies.

Strong verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated successful experience in planning and managing interpersonal relationships.

Demonstrated successful experience in managing, training and development of staff and staff assessments.

Demonstrated expertise in project and process development and execution.

Proven successful experience in time management and multitasking, strategic and long range planning, and menu/recipe development including working with quantity and batch cooking.

Demonstrated effective skills in problem solving, creativity, innovation and initiative.

Previous successful experience as an Assistant General Manager or experience in having executed the duties of an Assistant General Manager.

Currently managerial ServSafe certified.
