Position Summary: The University of Dayton, Department of Public Safety is looking for an energetic, service oriented Police Officer(s) to join our ranks. The primary duties of this role are to protect the lives of the University of Dayton's citizens and its property. The uniformed patrol Police Officer is responsible for providing protection and assistance when responding to calls for service, maintaining/ restoring public peace, and enforcing state laws, local ordinances and the rules and regulations of the University of Dayton. The Officer addresses complaints, investigates crimes, and makes arrests of criminal offenders. The Officer writes reports based on investigative findings and processes evidence. The Officer provides stationary traffic control and mobile patrol, as directed. The Officer performs these and other related duties as required or directed by a supervisor or superior officer. This summary is an overview and not to be an exhaustive list of the tasks and duties of this role.
Minimum Qualifications:

Must be a commissioned Peace Officer through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) or currently within one month of successful completion of an OPOTA Police Academy.

Must be able to legally work in the United States Must be at least 21years of age Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent

Must possess a valid driver's license and low risk driving record

Must not have any felony convictions or domestic violence convictions

Must satisfactorily pass a comprehensive background check

Must satisfactorily complete all phases of the selection process

Must be proficient in use of police equipment including cruiser, firearms, mace, baton, and radio, as well as, self defense tactics Must have proficient skills in typing/ keyboarding

Must have effective verbal and written communication skills

Must possess a demonstrated positive orientation toward public service with the ability to impartially and respectfully engage persons from diverse backgrounds

Must successfully complete the Police Officer field training program

Must be able to meet and maintain all training and qualifications standards set forth by U.D. Department of Public Safety

Preferred Qualifications:

Proficiency in problem solving

Ability to think critically and operate judiciously under pressure

Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university

Military experience with an honorable discharge
