The University of Dayton seeks an innovative, collaborative, flexible, and service- oriented professional to serve as the Digital Pedagogy Librarian starting at the assistant professor level. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing and advancing digital pedagogy and curricular support for faculty in all disciplines. In collaboration with colleagues both in the libraries and across campus, the position will develop, maintain and promote relevant, high-quality instruction and support services related to digital pedagogy, such as digital storytelling, data visualization and mapping, consulting in the creation of online information literacy modules, and collaborating on the development of digital exhibits. This position also serves as a liaison to the School of Business, working with faculty and their research and curricular needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support, and in collaboration with members of the Libraries Information Systems & Digital Access division, for faculty wishing to employ digital scholarship and pedagogy using tools such as Omeka, Scalar, digital timelines, and other tools associated with digital humanities
  • Leads and participates in the creation of high quality digital learning objects (videos, tutorials, etc.) that address information literacy skills in a broad range of disciplines
  • Serves as a member of the Research Team and provides research consultation support
  • Serves on the Instruction Team and provides library instruction to academic departments within the School of Business, as well as a limited number of general education classes
  • Collaborates with the Center for Online Learning, specifically Learning Innovation and Engagement, in the review and adoption of new technologies that support pedagogy in the hopes of adopting and using such technologies
  • Provides programming and workshops that assist the Libraries promotion of digital teaching tools and other online initiatives
  • Contributes to the implementation of the Libraries’ and University’s diversity and inclusion plans
  • Conducts research and disseminates the findings through publication in peer-reviewed journals, major national meetings, and other venues
  • Serves on various library, University, and professional committees
  • Special projects as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of at least 33 credit hours of an ALA-accredited MLS program at the time of application with the degree conferred by the start date of July 1, 2022
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Potential for excellence in librarianship, research, and service
Preferred Qualifications:

We recognize that candidates may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, however​, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following, and we are committed to helping our future colleague develop these preferred skills:

  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Teaching experience, especially in an academic setting
  • Successful experience in one or more of the following:
    - working with and teaching digital pedagogy technologies and techniques, such as data visualization, digital storytelling, digital mapping
    - accessing and evaluating digital learning objects
    - Universal Design and/or designing for accessibility
  • Proficient working knowledge of instructional technologies
  • Degree in business related field; previous applicable experience working with business faculty; or 12 or more credits of college coursework towards a business degree
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment.
  • Successful experience planning, initiating, and implementing projects and services.
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Experience using learning management systems (examples: Sakaki, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Successful experience working in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team with faculty, staff, and a growing culturally diverse campus population
  • Appreciation for the University’s Catholic and Marianist educational values

Update Regarding Executive Order 14042 Effective Nov. 30, 2021

A federal court on Nov. 30 issued a ruling that suspends the requirement that applies to federal contractors in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who work in these states and who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status. The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our protocols and requirements are subject to change depending on conditions on campus or in our community, and government requirements.
