The University of Dayton (UD) Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) invites applications for a Faculty of Practice position specializing in design and manufacturing. The position is a non-tenure track position renewable annually and begins August 16, 2022.

The MAE Department offers a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering. Within the bachelor’s degree, concentrations are available in aerospace and energy systems. Additionally, minors are available in biomechanics and robotic systems. The Department also offers Master of Science and Doctorate degrees. The Department currently has 800 undergraduate students, 200 graduate students, 24 full-time faculty members, and a number of adjunct faculty. About the position
The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester in the MAE department with a design and manufacturing specialization that may include Mechanical Design I, Mechanical Design II, Multi-disciplinary Design, and Manufacturing Processes. As a Faculty of Practice, the focus is on practice-oriented instruction, developing or sustaining extra-curricular experiential student opportunities derived from continued professional practice, and providing service to the profession, department, University, and community. The Dayton area offers unique opportunities for the Professor of Practice to engage in community -based teaching and to collaborate with local industry, the Air Force Research Laboratory located at Wright-Patterson AFB, and the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). Summer teaching is generally available.

Minimum Qualifications:

● Graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
● Three years of engineering experience in mechanical design or manufacturing.
● Effective written communication skills.

● Articulated potential for teaching excellence, particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies.

Preferred Qualifications:

We recognize that candidates may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, however, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following, and we are committed to helping our future colleague develop in their career:

● Earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
● Four or more years of engineering experience in mechanical design or manufacturing.
● Successful experience teaching courses in mechanical design and manufacturing.
● Articulated commitment to breadth of education, including educating the whole person in the Catholic and Marianist tradition.
● Successful experience in engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds and supporting the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
● Commitment to service in the community, university, and profession.
● Effective verbal communication skills.
● Effective interpersonal skills

Update Regarding Executive Order 14042 Effective Nov. 30, 2021 A federal court on Nov. 30 issued a ruling that suspends the requirement that applies to federal contractors in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee.
