The Student Success and Outreach Specialist supports multi-ethnic, historically racially/ethnically underrepresented and underserved undergraduate students, at the University of Dayton in achieving their educational and life goals. The role of this position in the Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center (MEC) promotes a diverse perspective in campus efforts prioritizing engaged learning, health and wellbeing, belongingness and student success support to all students. The person in this position will frequently meet with students and will work collaboratively with MEC staff, and a variety of campus partners to promote retention, persistence and student success.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling or other related academic field.
2. Two years of experience working with U.S. racially/ethnically underrepresented students.
3. One year of experience working with high school or college students in some combination of teaching, academic coaching, mentoring, or program development.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
5. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Master's degree in student affairs, higher education, counseling or other related academic field.
2. Three years of experience working with U.S. racially/ethnically underrepresented students.
3. Two years of experience working with college students in some combination of academic coaching, mentoring, and/or programming.
4. Demonstrated experience designing and implementing strategies for supporting the retention and academic success of U.S. racially/ethnically underrepresented college students.
5. Demonstrated experience using active learning techniques.
6. Understanding of data management and analysis.
7. Strong customer service orientation with excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
8. Strong formal public presentation skills.
9. Demonstrated ability to collaborate, work effectively with a diverse team, and work independently.
10. Strong ability to manage multiple, concurrently running projects.
11. Excellent organization and planning skills, including flexibility, a strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and effective time management skills.
12. Demonstrated ability to solve problem situations effectively.
13. Experience successfully managing confidential records and knowledge of FERPA.
14. Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.

The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel.
