Position Summary: |
Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? Our Structural Materials division invites qualified applicants to apply for our Principal Research Scientist opening!
This position supports high-level materials science and polymeric materials research conducted in support of Air Force Research Laboratories, and includes nanoparticle research & synthesis as well as detailed characterization of these materials. The position provides deep insight into material chemical structure - property relationships, and establishes the foundations of these materials for potential applications.

Minimum Qualifications: |
• B.S. Chemistry or Related Field and 15 years of related experience in materials science, nanoparticle synthesis and characterization OR Ph.D. Chemistry or Related Field and 12 years of related experience in materials science, nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. • Must be a U.S Citizen. • Experience supervising students, including Ph.D. student thesis efforts. • Experience with carbon nanomaterials. • Experience with metal nanoparticle synthesis and characterization. • Synthetic Organic Chemistry laboratory skills. • Familiarity with pyrophoric and energetic materials. • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: |
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
• Has an active security clearance. • Experience with IR, UV/Vis, Raman spectroscopy. • Experience with thermal analysis (TGA, DSC, NMR). • Proven record of peer reviewed publications and ability to publish results. • Experience working with socially and culturally diverse communities.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
