The Assistant Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of alcohol and other drug prevention education programs for entering first-year and upper class students. The ideal candidate should be a creative problem-solver, exhibit excellent judgment in difficult situations, and have the ability to communicate effectively complex and difficult information with nuance and compassion. The Assistant Director will serve as an educator and a learner and engage with individuals from all backgrounds and identities. Knowledge of alcohol and other drug prevention education best practices and impeccable attention to detail is essential. The Assistant Director will contribute to the development and oversight of interactive prevention education curricula for issues of alcohol and other drugs and assist in the development of inclusive prevention education curricula for students from historically underserved or marginalized communities.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Bachelor’s degree in a related field with two years of experience designing, implementing or assessing AOD prevention or wellness health promotions programs through internships, practicum, assistantships, or professional experience OR a Master's degree in a related field; Experience and comfortability in presentations to large and small audiences; Experience supervising student employees or peer educators or related tasks; Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate succinctly and with diverse stakeholders; Ability to analyze and synthesize information and find solutions; Possess a high degree of independence, sound judgment, and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications: |
While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, social work, public health, health education, or other relevant discipline; Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist Assistant or Higher (OCPSA); Demonstrated knowledge of public health models, motivational interviewing, and/or BASICS; More than two years’ experience designing, implementing, or assessing AOD or wellness health promotions; Demonstrated experience with a traditional college age population for one or more years Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in a wide array of situations with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and community partners; Demonstrated success in multi-tasking and efficacy in a fast-pasted environment; Demonstrated strategies for keeping organized and serving as part of a collaborative team; Demonstrated strong desire to provide a supportive environment for students; Demonstrated familiarity with social media practices; Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment; Demonstrated experience as or working with peer educators; Demonstrated ability to complete assignments without detailed instructions; Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and the overall organization; Demonstrated familiarity with bystander intervention and college health risk determinants.
