The Opportunity
Our Entrepreneurship program for undergraduates is one of the very best and is regularly rated among the top programs in the country by Princeton Review and Entrepreneur Magazine. Our Department offers majors and minors in Entrepreneurship, Management, and Marketing. And, all of our majors emphasize connecting theory-to-practice.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary with full benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, retirement, disability, support for a dual-career program for spouses of prospective and newly hired faculty, a relocation package, and tuition remission benefits. Additionally, Lecturers may choose to participate in the university’s promotion process leading to Principal and Senior Lecturer statuses. This is a nine-month, renewable, position. Typical nine-month contracts are from August 16 to May 15.

Expectations for the position include teaching three course sections per semester (Fall/Spring). These may be undergraduate and/or MBA courses in management/entrepreneurship and could vary across semesters in delivery mode (online/in person) and time. Although course assignments may vary over time, it is expected that the primary teaching responsibility for this position will include the development and instruction of a new core, School of Business Administration, class covering the fundamentals of entrepreneurship with a focus on Entrepreneurial, Innovative, and Creative thinking. Further responsibilities include service to the department, University, and community, as well as collaborative engagement with colleagues.

Additionally, as Associate Director of the L. William Crotty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership, the position will involve: working with the Crotty Center Director in support of the Flyer Pitch competition as well as other possible student programming, working with the Associate Vice President of Entrepreneurial Initiatives to support Center operations, particularly as related to University engagement with The Hub, supporting Greater West Dayton Incubator activities as needed, and other duties as assigned.

The Department
The Management/Marketing Department has nationally recognized centers which sponsor several real-world competitions for students as part of our experiential learning emphasis across the curriculum. Our Talarico Center for Professional Selling trains and sponsors students to compete (and win) sales competitions around the U.S. And, the Crotty Center for Entrepreneurship also brings theory-to-practice through Flyer Pitch – a business plan competition with $150,000 in cash prizes and more than $50,000 of in-kind prizes/services, Flyer Enterprises - one of the largest student-run business organizations in the country, and Flyer Consulting - a student organization providing business consulting to nonprofit institutions. Furthermore, our presence in the local community with the Innovation Hub in downtown Dayton and the Greater West Dayton Incubator supports these immersive programs. Likewise, all our majors require students to complete a challenging hands-on capstone course that involves projects with local/regional firms. Minimum Qualifications:

● MBA or master’s degree in business, management, or related field
● Capability to teach in an academic setting or corporate training/teaching experience (e.g., corporate training, seminars/workshops, guest lecture, etc.)
● Effective written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

● Successful experience in (one or more of the following):

○ teaching at the college level
○ teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level in the business discipline
○ experience delivering classroom-style instruction (e.g., courses, corporate training, workshops, guest lecture) on topics in entrepreneurship, management, or related areas
○ using various learning resources, including technology and/or active learning strategies
○ teaching, mentoring, and/or working with individuals from socially and culturally diverse communities
○ working collaboratively with others (e.g., committee/professional service, co-teaching)

● Expertise and a record of professional growth within entrepreneurial settings, business management, or related field (e.g., marketing, finance, etc.)
● Familiarity with entrepreneurial ecosystems in the Dayton region, or beyond
● Willingness to teach:

○ a variety of courses in management, entrepreneurship, or related areas
○ in different venues and modalities across terms (in-person/online; day/evening)

● Effective interpersonal communication skills
● Effective oral communication skills
● Effective classroom management skills
● Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition of social justice and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession
