If so, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics at the University of Dayton, located in Dayton, OH invites you to apply for a faculty position as an Assistant Professor of Practice or Lecturer specializing in Construction Engineering and Management to begin January 2027.

The Opportunity
The University of Dayton Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is seeking to fill a non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Practice or Lecturer position to support the construction engineering and management area of study within the Department. The successful candidate will serve as the lead faculty member in the area of construction engineering and management and will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses; lead student studies in the Department’s construction engineering and management-related laboratories; advise academically and professionally both undergraduate and graduate students; work closely with a culturally and socially diverse student population; and engage in service to the University, profession, and community. Opportunities will be available for candidates who are interested in participating in research.

This is a full-time, nine-month, renewable faculty position with full benefits expected start January 1, 2027. Typical faculty contracts are from August 16 to May 15 each year. Starting in your second year, you can elect your 9-months pay to be spread across a 12-month period, if desired. Additionally, Faculty of Practice and Lecturers may choose to participate in the university’s promotion process.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics is a growing, successful department at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, OH. With over 240 students across undergraduate and graduate programs, we seek to train and inspire future professionals and leaders to design, develop, construct, and maintain the physical systems and infrastructure underlying all of human flourishing. • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering from an ABET accredited program.
• A master’s degree in either civil engineering, business administration, or construction management by the anticipated start date.
• Five (5) years of practical experience in construction engineering and management or project management of construction projects.
• Effective written communication skills.

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Successful experience in one or more of the following:
  • teaching project management or construction management either in an academic environment (colleges or universities) and/or in industry.
  • teaching (as instructor of record) undergraduate and graduate level courses in an engineering curriculum, particularly civil engineering courses
  • implementing modern methods of project and construction management using AI and data driven approaches.
  • delivering classroom instruction using innovative and experiential teaching strategies
  • mentoring, working with, and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse students.
• Interest in contributing to multi-disciplinary collaboration on engineering projects or research.
• Professional certification in civil engineering, construction, or project management, such as Professional Engineer (P.E.), Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Construction Manager (CCM), etc.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Effective oral communication skills
• Effective classroom management skills
