Position Summary:

The Access Coordinator position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Access & Disability Services and is part of the Disability Services Team within the Office of Learning Resources. This position is responsible for facilitating access to courses, programs, services, activities, and facilities for students with disabilities. The Access Coordinator works in collaboration with staff in the Office of Learning Resources, as well as campus partners, to develop and implement best practices in promoting inclusive design and assessing and facilitating reasonable accommodations. This position works directly with students to ensure that their legally protected accommodations are properly carried out across all aspects of University life. In addition, the Access Coordinator serves on various committees, group, and teams to help represent the Office of Learning Resources and advocate on behalf of students with disabilities to ensure that their needs are met.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree.
2. Minimum of 2 years professional experience in higher education, disability services or related fields.
3. Ability to assess a situation and problem solve appropriately.
4. Awareness and sensitivity to the needs of diverse populations (for example, individuals with disabilities; veterans; individuals with racial, ethnic, or cultural backgrounds different from your own).
5. Excellent written communication skills.
6. Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
7. Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends upon occasion.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Master’s degree in hand or working toward a Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Rehabilitation, Psychology, Counseling, Sociology, Social Work, Disability Studies or related field.
2. Knowledge of best practices related to accessibility, accommodation, and/or disability as presented through the Association of Higher Education on Disability (AHEAD).
3. Demonstrated knowledge of, training in, or experience with state and federal laws related to disability.
4. One year or more of experience working with college students or adult learners in academic coaching or mentoring, in or out of the classroom.
5. Demonstrated experience successfully mentoring or coaching diverse student populations (for example, individuals with disabilities; individuals with racial, ethnic, or cultural backgrounds different from your own).
6. Demonstrated record keeping experience including timely documentation of interactions or communications.
7. Demonstrated understanding of FERPA or of the importance of protecting confidentiality of student information and materials.
8. Excellent listening and oral communication skills.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
10. Demonstrated experience successfully collaborating, working effectively with a diverse team, and working proactively as an individual.
11. Strong experience successfully managing multiple concurrently running projects.
12. Excellent organizational skills (e.g. flexibility, strong attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and effective time management).
13. Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.
