Position Summary:

Are you interested in working for UDRI, a national leader in scientific and engineering research, serving government, industry and nonprofit customers? Join our team as a Formulation Chemist!

The primary purpose of this position is to conduct sponsored on-site research at the AFRL Munitions Directorate at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The focus of the research is the design and preparation of particulate composites containing polymers, explosives, and reactive materials, with an emphasis on powder processing methods and surface modification of ingredients. A successful candidate must be able to work both independently and as a member of a dynamic and challenging team.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related physical science field with a minimum of three years of related experience.
• Experience with the formulation and scale-up of explosive, energetic or hazardous materials.
• Knowledgeable with general wet chemistry laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and general scientific documentation practices.
• Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Candidate must be able to obtain a SECRET level security clearance and Department of Defense explosive certification within 1-year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Knowledge and experience in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, ceramic processing and development of analytical methods of chemical analysis.
• Strong math and computer skills to include comparative statistics, experimental design, and scripting/programming.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to understand and adhere to safety policies.
• Able to conduct literature searches and incorporate external sources into research programs.
• Able to work with a diverse and experienced team of scientists, engineers, and technicians in support and advisory roles.
• Candidate should be able to plan and execute systematic research efforts adhering to standard research principles.
• Demonstrated history of punctuality and dependability at work.
• Demonstrated history of successful self-direction on complicated, multi-tiered, tasks.
