Position Summary: |
Are you a skilled machinist with a passion for innovation and sustainability? The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) - Sustainment Tech Transition division is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Repair Machinist to join our dynamic team. This exciting opportunity will allow you to contribute to groundbreaking research and development projects that drive technological advancements in sustainable manufacturing practices.
This position will support advanced manufacturing programs for aircraft sustainment activities. This role will support repair through advanced manufacturing processes including part/repair setup, cold spray deposit, generation, testing, and equipment operation and maintenance. The successful candidate will understand additive repair or other advanced manufacturing processes. The position will support design, manufacturing, and test/validation of hardware/procedures for cold spray repair technologies. The successful candidate may be assigned to assist an engineer or may work under the direction of a more experienced technician. Technicians will be responsible for tool tracking/control. Technician will be primarily pre- and post-machine samples and parts. The majority of work will support government customers, with some industry and academic partners being supported as well.

Minimum Qualifications: |
T2 minimum qualifications: • High school diploma or its equivalent. • A minimum of three years of related technical experience is required. • Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for two years of related experience. • Knowledge of cold spray processes. • Experience with tool tracking/control. • Exposure to metal machining. • Experience with quality standards (e.g. ISO9001). • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.
T3 minimum qualifications: • High school diploma or its equivalent. • Employees are expected to be proficient at routine and advanced technical functions in support of a research activity with general supervision. • Minimum of eight years of related technical experience. • Formal technical training beyond high school can be substituted for two years of related experience. • Knowledge of cold spray processes and testing requirements. • Knowledge of metal working (machining, fabricating). • Knowledge of metal mechanical testing. • Expected to exercise sound technical judgment, initiative, and ingenuity. • Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen.

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
T2 preferred qualifications: • Five years of related technical experience is required. • Demonstrated experience with cold spray processes. • Experience with metal machining in a production environment. • Experience with process documents generation for quality standards such as ISO9001 or AS9100.
T3 preferred qualifications: • Employees are expected to be proficient at routine and advanced technical functions in support of a research activity with general supervision. • Minimum of ten years of related technical experience. • Demonstrated experience with cold spray processes and testing requirements. • Demonstrated knowledge of CNC machining. • Expected to exercise sound technical judgment, initiative, and ingenuity. • Ability to function independently
