Position Summary:

The engineer will support research to better understand the effects of laser manufacturing processes on materials and will develop engineering tools for advancing research technologies for novel materials and manufacturing solutions. Activities may include, designing large assemblies and analyzing hardware using Solidworks or equivalent, fabrication using CNC equipment using MasterCam or equivalent, Integration of PLC and various subcomponents, demonstrating AM machine calibration compliance/readiness, printing specimens/calibration builds, working across teams/groups to drive material or process improvement and scientific discovery.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited University by January 1, 2025.
• Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent.
• Experience with Additive Manufacturing.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• A graduate degree in engineering, materials science, or physics from an accredited University.
• General familiarity with multiple fabrication methods and ideally hands on experience with one or more.
• Large scale system design including rev control.
• Demonstrated hands on experience in industrial systems such as PLC integration.
• Experience operating laser-based manufacturing equipment in support of research.
• General familiarity with multiple Additive Manufacturing processes.
• Understanding of Additive Manufacturing processes and modeling tools.
• Basic understanding of data acquisition and analysis concepts.
• Leadership experience.
• Ability to provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.
• Ability to either present, or participate as a reviewer, in technical and program reviews.
