Activities aimed at proving a concept to be valid or technically feasible by the application of scientific and engineering methodologies. Work in this family typically has the objective of demonstrating through test or analyses the performance and implementation potential of a concept

Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team. Executes standard operational/technical tasks typically subject to instructions and work routines. There is latitude to rearrange the sequence to complete task/duties based on changing work situations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college
• At least 8 years composites experience with full comprehension of conceptual, or theoretical activities relating to the development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes undertaken to build, apply, or shape the materials
• Knowledge of composites engineering to a level to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills
• Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work
• Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area
• Experience in polymer matrix fabrication and bonding
• Experience serving as a principal investigator
• Active security clearance
• Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

An R4 must meet all R3 minimum qualifications in addition to the qualifications listed below:
• At least 12 years composites Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• R4: Specialized expertise in composites lay-up
• Supervisory experience
• Deep understanding of UDRI policies, procedures, and culture
• Demonstrated successful autonomous thinking and action
• Demonstrated excellent judgement
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated commitment to the future of UD and UDRI
• Successful record of publications in the field
• Successful experience designing, performing, and analysis of composite test
• Ability to promote inclusive excellence in the workplace
