Position Summary:

Are you a passionate educator, committed to helping college students achieve holistic wellbeing? The Brook Center is hiring for an Assistant Director, Mental Health and Wellbeing, who will support students by advising the Co-Pilots, our mental health and wellbeing peer educators, facilitating mental health and wellbeing programming and presentations across campus, lead the planning for the Flyers Farmers Market, mentoring student leaders, and ensuring that students have the knowledge to stay holistically well throughout their college experience. The assistant director, mental health and wellbeing will serve as a member of the larger integrative team within the Brook Center, which houses wellbeing education, mental health education, LGBTQ+ education, and sexual violence prevention education. As a critical member of the team, the assistant director will provide mental health and wellbeing education and life skills education through presentations, student advising, support of the Food4Flyers basic needs pantry, and more. Utilizing every level of the socio-ecological model, the assistant director will help our campus community understand the intersections between mental and physical health, addressing mental health and holistic health inequities that can lead to increase in student success by centering diversity, equity, and inclusion as a primary lens. The assistant director will also lead key initiatives such as World Mental Health Day and Stress Less Week, advise the Co-Pilots mental health and wellbeing peer educators, and chair the Flyers Farmers Market. All education will come from a perspective that is research-based, scientific, and applicable to college life.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Education/Services: 70%
- Create, implement, and assess comprehensive, evidence-based educational programming on mental health and wellbeing that have a high likelihood of achieving measurable improvements in mental health and wellbeing behaviors and/or student success, delivered through classroom presentations and partnering with student organizations. Education will be targeted to all students, with specific programs designed for specialty populations (specific student organizations, student groups with shared identities, etc). Education should include the valuable insights taken from theory and best practices, including public health, student development theory, inclusive pedagogies, social determinants of health, and the UD Step Care Model. Topics should include, but are not limited to: stress management, anxiety, depression, sleep, communication and boundaries, nutrition, food insecurity, physical health, anatomy and physiology, vaccinations, exercise, and infectious disease, and mental health and wellbeing resources.
- Oversee the success of key initiatives, including: Eating Disorder Awareness Week, Stress Less Week, World Mental Health Day, etc.
- Serve as the primary manager of the Flyers Farmers Market, with assistance from the collaborative planning committee.
- Support the success of the Food4Flyers basic needs pantry through education, promotion, and strategic logistical collaboration with the Brook Center student staff.
- Strategically collaborate with key constituents across campus to infuse mental health, wellbeing, and life skills education into divisional initiatives and advance the overall goal of creating cultures of mental health and wellbeing throughout the institution
- Utilize findings from climate and wellbeing surveys to improve programming and target education toward topics that are most relevant for UD students and increase awareness of equity gaps in mental health and wellbeing across campus
- Stay up to date on national trends, best practices, and relevant research across disciplines (public health, psychology, sociology, education, etc)
- Articulate and enact a vision to the campus community of a holistically healthy campus, working toward a culture of wellbeing amongst students
- Work occasional nights and weekends, as needed

Teaching/Advising: 20%
- Serve as the advisor for the Co-Pilots mental health and wellbeing peer educators, including serving as the instructor for UDI 402, the 1 credit hour associated mini-course. The advisor builds community amongst the team, supports the students as they offer peer health coaching and create educational experiences for their peers, individually mentors each student, and facilitates learning for the peer educators.

Brook Center General Responsibilities: 10%
- Serve on relevant committees
- Participate as a full member of the Brook Center, contributing to shared initiatives, and supporting all members of the team to celebrate shared success
- Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor and the Director of the Brook Center
- Manage programming budget
- Assess programming and maintain a commitment to constant improvement

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in related field with 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or assessing mental health and wellbeing education programs through internships, practicum, assistantships, or professional experience OR a Master's degree in related field
- Ability to plan, organize, and run educational programming both independently and through collaboration across departments
- High attention to detail
- Strong written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Health Promotion, Public Health, exercise science, or related field
- 2 or more years of post-master professional experience designing, implementing, and assessing mental health education programs in a higher education setting
- A thorough understanding of student development, health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models
- Ability to thrive in a team-based, educational environment that values high expectations, integrity, and leadership, while possessing positive attitude and enthusiasm
- Demonstrated ability to respond to students in crisis and refer to appropriate resources
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and run educational programming both independently and through collaboration across departments
- Exceptional presentation skills and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse community, recognizing different approaches and barriers to accessing mental health resources exist for various groups, and provide education from a non-judgmental perspective
- Demonstrated experience using health promotion models to provide services and supports to underrepresented and underserved student populations in an effort to work toward a campus community where all members have equitable mental health and wellbeing related outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in collaboration with diverse stakeholders (faculty, staff, students, local organizations)
- Demonstrated familiarity with the Jed Foundation Framework and their recommendations on equity in mental health, public health models, mental health education topics, or motivational interviewing
- Demonstrated ability to inspire others to share a vision, such as a campus community that values the mental health and wellbeing of all community members
- Demonstrated experience with a traditional college age population for 1 or more years
- Demonstrated experience with a peer education program
- Demonstrated experience with learning outcome writing and learning design
- Supervision and/or advising experience
- Ability to handle confidential information, work independently, and work as part of a team
- Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH) designation, or eligible to become certified
- Experience managing a financial budget
- Demonstrated experience in working with content related to sexual violence prevention education and/or LGBTQ+ education.
