Position Summary:

This position will support day-to-day metallography laboratory (met lab) operations for United States Air Force (USAF) sustainment activities including additive manufacturing (AM), cold spray (CS), additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) and applied corrosion technologies. Primary job duties will include specimen preparation and characterization, operation of test equipment, incoming quality control inspection, assisting with metal powder inventory management, coordinating purchase orders and sample shipments, and supporting materials engineers with other project activities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

T2 minimum qualifications:
-High school diploma or equivalent
-3 or more years of directly related technical experience
-Experience following instructions, exercising sound judgement, and exhibiting good work habits in the performance of assigned duties
-Organizational skills
-Attention to detail
-Proficient with MS Office
-Due to the requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. citizen

T3 minimum qualifications include all T2 minimum qualifications in addition to the following
-5 additional years of direct related technical experience (8 total years minimum)

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

T2 preferred qualifications:
-Relevant technical study beyond high school
-Directly related metallography technical experience
-Direct experience with specimen preparation including polishing
-Demonstrated experience with lab environments and adherence to lab policies & procedures
-Experience working with metal powders
-Experience working in a manufacturing environment
-Experience working under a certified quality system such as ISO 9001 or AS9100
-Effective communication skills with team members at all levels

T3 preferred qualifications include all T2 preferred qualifications in addition to the following:
-8 or more years of directly related metallography technical experience
-Direct experience working autonomously
-Direct experience coordinating daily lab activities and communications
-Direct experience discussing, evaluating, and solving complex and varied technical problems
