Advanced Technology Research Center (ATRC) Intern

Join students from universities nationwide for a summer of research alongside Air Force mentors.

Participants will contribute to collaborative research projects in sensing and autonomy technologies, including sensor processing and exploitation, object tracking and recognition, sensor development, navigation, artificial intelligence, and related fields.

Employment Status

• Part-time, on-call, not to exceed 1,000 hours per year.
• Anticipated program period: May–August 2027.

Position Summary

• Participate in collaborative, mentor-guided research with Air Force mentors.
• Advance Air Force capabilities through research in layered sensing, artificial intelligence, aerospace and sensor technologies, multispectral exploitation and detection, spectrum warfare, high-performance computing, modeling and simulation, autonomous sensing, and advanced sensor systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Acceptance into an undergraduate or graduate degree program at the applicant’s home institution in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or a related field.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong academic performance.

Eligibility

Due to requirements associated with research contracts with the U.S. federal government, some internship positions require U.S. citizenship and a minimum age of 18.

Job Duties

• 100% — Mentor-guided research supporting Air Force technologies.

Compensation

Hourly compensation is based on academic standing for the upcoming school year and previous experience with this internship program or its predecessor programs.
