Position Summary: The Accounting Assistant supports the Research Institute’s Accounting Office with accounting, invoicing, and administrative tasks. Responsibilities include assembling supporting documentation for sponsor invoices, uploading invoice information into Wide Area Workflow (WAWF), applying payments to accounts, providing administrative support to the office to include supporting audits, filing, processing mail, ordering office supplies, and organizing activities. The Accounting Assistant will support other accounting activities such as reviewing and approving travel when the travel coordinator is unavailable; creating invoices per billing requests, updating and maintaining procedural documentation; reconciling spreadsheets, accounts, and other financial data and identifying discrepancies; and tracking expenses at a project level.
Minimum Qualifications:

1) High School graduate plus four years of relevant experience (diverse, progressive administrative) and training OR an Associate's degree plus two years of relevant experience and training OR a Bachelors and no previous experience required.

2) Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, especially Microsoft Excel.

3) Familiarity with basic accounting principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

1) Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

2) Experience with WAWF.

3) Understanding of government contract types (CPFF, FFP, T&M, etc).

4) Exceptional time management with the ability to multitask and remain motivated and positive.

5) Strong verbal and written communication skills.

6) Professional manner with the ability to handle business sensitive and confidential data and information.

7) Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
