Position Summary:

Are you looking for a university that will support your commitment to educating the next generation of psychologists through new experiential learning strategies? If so, the Department of Psychology at the University of Dayton, located in Dayton, Ohio, invites you to apply for one of our two Lecturer positions to begin on August 16, 2023. These are nine-month, full time positions which are renewable annually. Primary expectations include contributing to the undergraduate teaching needs of the Department, and advising and mentoring undergraduate students. While the successful candidates should be prepared to support a wide range of courses, the courses to be offered each semester will be determined in consultation with the chair of the Department of Psychology. The position is eligible for benefits. Additionally, successful candidates who serve for six years or more are eligible to be considered for non-tenure track promotion in accordance with the university’s recently implemented lecturer promotion policy.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • ABD in Psychology nearing completion
  • Successful experience teaching at the college level
  • Potential to teach one or more of the following courses at the undergraduate level: Introductory psychology, statistics, research methods, integrative social science methods, and courses in the applicant's area of specialty
  • Effective written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Ph.D. in psychology with expertise in one or more of the following areas: cognition, learning, child development, biopsychology, statistics, and/or research methods
  • Successful experience in one or more of the following:
    • teaching one or more of the following courses as the instructor of record: Cognition, learning, biopsychology, child development, integrative social science methods, introductory psychology, statistics, and research methods
    • mentoring and advising
    • working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities
    • peer-reviewed scholarship in psychology
    • developing special topics courses in the candidate’s area of expertise that would support department needs
    • working collaboratively with diverse faculty and staff
    • alternative teaching techniques, e.g. successful experience with experiential and active learning strategies to foster and maintain student engagement, successful use of learning resources, including technology and/or active learning strategies.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion and a and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession

  • unofficial transcripts,
  • a statement of teaching philosophy describing your approach to teaching,
  • a sample syllabus for teaching an undergraduate psychology course,
  • any documents supporting successful experience teaching (e.g., student evaluations of teaching, peer/supervisor evaluative reports on teaching),
  • preprints and/or reprints, and
  • contact information for three references. Letters of recommendation will be requested later in the process.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.
