UDRI seeks candidates experienced in nondestructive evaluation (NDE) at the University of Dayton, Dayton OH. The researcher will be supporting research in evaluating, performing, integrating and advancing NDE methods for aerospace applications. Inspection of aircraft structures, engines, and support components for damage due to in-service or manufacturing induced flaws will be performed on metallic and composite materials. Inspections will be performed in accordance with existing standards or to qualify new processes meeting those standards. NDE modalities of interest include ultrasonics, eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography and thermography.

Minimum Qualifications:

R2 Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• Experience in NDE methods including ultrasonics, eddy current, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography and thermography.
• Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience.
• Experience with NDE standard practices.
• Experience developing inspections for new components for embedded flaws.
• Experience with inspections for surface connected flaws including cracks, coating thickness, disbonds, and corrosion.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications and scripting languages used for data analysis and simulations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists.
• Willingness to publish research results in peer reviewed journals and present research at conferences, informal internal meetings, etc.
• Due to requirements of our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be a U.S. Citizen.

• Experience with Microsoft Office applications and scripting languages used for data analysis and simulations.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Interest and ability to communicate and interact with multidisciplinary scientists.
• Willingness to publish research results in peer reviewed journals and present research at conferences, informal internal meetings, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• ASNT Level III in ultrasound, eddy current, radiography, fluorescent penetrant, magnetic particle, thermography.
• Experience with DoD NDI Technical Procedures.
• Experience with test system development including instrumentation integration.
• Experience working with socially and culturally diverse community.
• Application of registration, segmentation, and classification tools on sensor data sets.
• Prior demonstrated experience in writing and publishing peer reviewed journal articles and presentations at conferences.
