The University of Dayton Department of Counselor Education and Human Services is seeking applications for a full-time, 12-month, Assistant Clinical Faculty specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling beginning January 1, 2027. Clinical Mental Health Counseling faculty teach in a CACREP-accredited M.S.Ed. program.

The Opportunity
The University of Dayton’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program offers opportunities for faculty engagement and growth through teaching; interprofessional collaboration; and curriculum, program, and community outreach development. We have an established partnership with two other universities for Interprofessional Education and Practice (IPE) which prepares students in health professions to work well together. Our faculty work collaboratively with students and community partners to extend learning beyond the classroom through such programs as the Community Wellness Initiative, Brain Health Collective, Ecotherapy Certificate program, and Chi Sigma Iota. As a member of this dynamic team, this position is expected to:

• Teach graduate counseling courses on our Dayton and Columbus campuses (12 credits per term; fall, spring, & summer);
• Work primarily from our main campus in Dayton, OH with one evening per week of teaching in Columbus (mileage provided);
• Serve as Clinical Experience Coordinator (including but not limited to: site development, overseeing student placements, supervisor training, & clinical documentation);
• Recruit, advise, and mentor graduate students;
• Serve as co-faculty advisor for Chi Sigma Iota chapters;
• Provide service to the program, department, university, community, and profession; and
  Demonstrate a commitment to inclusive excellence.

Salary is competitive and dependent upon qualifications. Summer teaching is a requirement of this 12-month position. Research is not required for this position but is supported. UD’s School of Education and Health Sciences offers a pathway for promotion for clinical faculty.

The Program and Department
The University of Dayton’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is a well-established master’s program with campuses in both Dayton and Columbus. Students from UD’s CMHC program complete clinical training with a wide variety of community partners (e.g. community mental health agencies, hospitals, university counseling centers, nursing homes, school-based organizations, etc). Students also engage with faculty in research, community outreach, interprofessional development, and skill specialization through our Ecotherapy Certificate program, Ecotherapy Club, and Community Wellness Initiative. This position combines opportunities for teaching, overseeing practicum and internship, community engagement, developing programs, interprofessional collaboration, and engaging students in community outreach.

The Department of Counselor Education and Human Services offers four graduate degree concentrations: clinical mental health counseling, school counseling, school psychology, and human services. We have established partnerships with area mental health providers and our faculty regularly collaborate for program and research initiatives. The department is housed within the School of Education and Health Sciences, whose work is grounded in Marianist values of community-building, service to others, and the common good. • Completed doctoral program coursework in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP-accredited program with anticipated completion within 1 year of hire;
• Licensed or license-eligible as an LPCC in the state of Ohio;
• Post-licensure clinical practice; and
• Potential for excellence in:
  • Teaching at the graduate level
  • Advising and mentoring students
  • Building and maintaining community partnerships

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision;
• Successful experience in one or more of the following:
  • Teaching within the United States system of higher education at the graduate level;
  • Using instructional technology within both face-to-face and online teaching (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, Isidore, etc);
  • Clinical mental health practitioner in community mental health setting(s);
  • Scientist-practitioner model of training and practice;
  • Employing active and inclusive learning strategies to foster and maintain student engagement;
  • Working in a collaborative and/or interdisciplinary environments;
  • Working with and/or teaching socially and culturally diverse communities;
  • Advising and/or mentoring students;
  • Providing supervision to counselor trainees;
  • Recruiting individuals from historically underrepresented and marginalized groups;
• Current membership in professional organizations;
• Licensed professional clinical counselor with supervision designation (LPCC-S);
• Proficiency in technology (e.g. Office Suite, Google Suite, AI, project management software, etc)
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• Effective oral communication skills
• Effective classroom management skills
• Commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a
• commitment to social justice, inclusive excellence, and service to the community, university, and profession

• If CES doctoral degree is not completed at time of application, a letter from your advisor with your anticipated completion date is required.

Candidates selected for campus interviews will be expected to demonstrate teaching knowledge and skills in a 1-hr presentation to faculty and students.
