Position Summary:

The Department of Computer Science invites applications for multiple tenure track positions at the assistant professor rank to start August 16, 2023. Successful candidates will work with a diverse faculty in the Department, engaging in highly impacted computer science teaching and research. The Department and College will support new faculty members with course releases, a competitive start-up package to establish their research labs, travel funds, and additional assistance for research. In addition to the dual-career program for spouses of prospective and newly hired faculty, the University also supports opportunities to pursue internal funding to support research, a relocation package, and tuition remission benefits.

The Department offers a stimulating academic environment with active research programs with ten cutting-edge research labs in growing areas of computer science. We offer Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, and a Graduate Certificate in Autonomous Systems and Data Science. Our Bachelor of Computer Science program is ABET accredited, and our Bachelor of Computer Science with a Concentration in Cyber Defense is an NSA-designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. Recently, the Department has experienced significant growth in terms of faculty, facilities, and students.

We seek experts committed to excellence in undergraduate/graduate education and strengthening and expanding our research. Expectations of these positions include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, pursuing a nationally competitive, extramurally funded research program, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and engaging in service to the University and the community. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Completion of all coursework needed for a doctoral degree in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
  • Promise of excellence in teaching and scholarly research.
  • Articulated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on research.
  • Effective written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Successful experience in any or all of the following:
    • effectively engaging, teaching, mentoring, and advising students of diverse backgrounds.
    • teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
    • working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
    • scholarly research related to the candidate’s field.
    • working collaboratively with various constituents, e.g., colleagues, community members, industry representatives.
  • Ability to establish an externally funded research program.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the breadth of education, including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.

  • Statement articulating their commitment to excellence in research and addressing research plans, maximum of three pages,

  • Unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts (scanned into one document for upload). ***If coursework is not transcripted, please submit a letter from your advisor indicating coursework is complete.

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status. The University will continue to monitor the state of the pandemic on campus and in the community as well as developments in federal and state requirements, and also will continue to regularly consult with public health officials and our medical panel. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, our protocols and requirements are subject to change depending on conditions on campus or in our community, and government requirements.
