Position Summary:

The Department of Computer Science invites applications for multiple tenure track positions at the assistant professor rank to start August 16, 2024. The Department offers a stimulating academic environment with active research programs with ten cutting-edge research labs in growing areas of computer science. We offer Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science and Computer Information Systems, Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science, and a Graduate Certificate in Autonomous Systems and Data Science. Our Bachelor of Computer Science program is ABET accredited, and our Bachelor of Computer Science with a Concentration in Cyber Defense is an NSA-designated National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. Recently, the Department has experienced significant growth in terms of faculty, facilities, and students.

Successful candidates will work with a diverse faculty in the Department, engaging in highly impacted computer science teaching and research. The Department and College may support new faculty members with course releases, a competitive start-up package to establish their research labs, travel funds, and additional assistance for research. In addition, we serve as an effective resource and support system for your spouse. We seek experts committed to excellence in undergraduate/graduate education and strengthening and expanding our research. Expectations of these positions include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, pursuing a nationally competitive, extramurally funded research program, advising and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and engaging in service to the University and the community. Minimum Qualifications:
  • ABD nearing completion of PhD including all coursework completed in Computer Science or an equivalent field.
  • Articulated commitment to:
    • quality teaching,
    • quality scholarly research,
    • inclusive excellence in undergraduate and graduate education with a focus on research.
Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may meet all preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

  • Successful teaching experience which may include employing active and experiential learning strategies.
  • Teaching and/or research experience in programming languages, operating systems, software engineering, or theory of computing.
  • Successful experience in any or all of the following:
    • Effectively engaging, teaching, mentoring, and/or advising students of diverse backgrounds.
    • Working with socially and culturally diverse communities.
    • Working collaboratively with various constituents, e.g., colleagues, community members, industry representatives.
  • Ability to establish an externally funded research program.
  • PhD in Computer Science.
  • Scholarly research related to the candidate’s field.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Effective oral communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Commitment to the breadth of education, including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition to support the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and a commitment of service to the community, university, and profession.

  • A one-page cover letter that addresses all minimum and any applicable preferred qualifications met,
  • Curriculum vitae,
  • Statement addressing research plans, maximum of three pages,
  • Statement articulating their commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching, which includes active and experiential learning, maximum of two pages.
  • Unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts (scanned into one document for upload).
  • If the PhD is not complete, a letter from your advisor indicating progress towards completion will be required.
  • Contact information for three individuals to provide letters of recommendation, at least one of which addresses teaching abilities and the other addresses research experience. Recommenders will receive instructions on how to upload their letters upon the completion of the application.
