The assistant director, health promotion and education will serve as a member of a larger integrative team within the Brook Center, which houses health promotion and education, mental health education, LGBTQ+ education, and sexual violence prevention education. As a critical member of the team, the assistant director is responsible for the planning and implementation of wellbeing programming and health education for all undergraduate students, utilizing every level of the socio-ecological model to impact the campus community. Addressing inequities in health and wellbeing outcomes across social determinants is critical to student success and creating an overall inclusive campus community; centering diversity, equity, and inclusion as primary lenses, the assistant director will provide public health programming that uniquely delivers education to build equity in health and wellbeing across campus. Education topics include sleep, nutrition, food insecurity, body image, vaccinations, social media safety, gambling, infectious disease, exercise, physical health (including anatomy and physiology), goal setting, and other topics that the assistant director sees developing as a need across campus and nationally. All education will come from a perspective that is research-based, scientific, and applicable to college life. The following responsibilities will be critical to this role:

• Create, implement, and assess comprehensive, evidence-based educational programming on health education and wellbeing that have a high likelihood of achieving measurable improvements in health behaviors and/or student success, delivered through classroom presentations and partnering with student organizations. Education will be targeted to all students, with specific programs designed for specialty populations (specific student organizations, student groups with shared identities, etc). Education should include the valuable insights taken from theory and best practices, including student development theory, culturally responsive education strategies, inclusive pedagogies, social determinants, and the UD Step Care Model.
• Provide daily oversight of the Food4Flyers food pantry, including creating smooth systems for easy use for students, training student staff, creating educational signage and resources for students who utilize this service, and managing inventory
• Serve as the primary manager of the Flyer Farmers Market, with assistance from the collaborative planning committee
• Work closely with the assistant dean of students and director, Brook Center, to coordinate the Wellbeing Education Certificate
• Oversee the success of key initiatives, such as National Nutrition Month, World AIDS Day, etc
• Strategically collaborate with key constituents across campus to infuse health education into divisional initiatives and advance the overall goal of creating a culture of wellbeing and equity throughout the institution
• Articulate and enact a vision to the campus community of a healthy campus, working toward a culture of wellbeing amongst faculty, staff, and students that supports quality health decisions
• Serve as instructor for UDI 174
• Assess programming and maintain a commitment to constant improvement
• Utilize findings from climate and wellbeing surveys to improve programming and target education toward topics that are most relevant for UD students and increase awareness of equity gaps in health and wellbeing across campus
• Stay up to date on national trends, best practices, and relevant research across disciplines (public health, psychology, sociology, education, etc) with special attention given to inclusive excellence
• Maintain online platforms, such as the UD website, social media, and online educational platforms, for health education
• Serve on relevant committees
• Manage a programming budget
• Participate as a full member of the Brook Center, contributing to shared initiatives, and supporting all members of the team to celebrate shared success
• Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor
• Work nights and weekends, as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related field with 2 years of experience designing, implementing, or assessing health education programs through internships, practicum, assistantships, or professional experience OR a Master's degree in related field.
• Knowledge of best practices and theoretical understanding in public health, health education, or health equity
• Ability to plan, organize, and run educational programming both independently and through collaboration across departments
• High attention to detail and strong written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

• Masters degree in College Student Personnel, Health Promotion, Public Health, Exercise Science, or related field
• 2 or more years of post-master professional experience designing, implementing, and assessing health education programs in a higher education setting
• A thorough understanding of student development, health promotion, behavior change, public health models, and population-based theories and models
• Ability to thrive in a team-based, educational environment that values high expectations, integrity, and leadership, while possessing positive attitude and enthusiasm
• Exceptional presentation skills and verbal communication skills
• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH) designation, or eligible to become certified
• Demonstrated experience in collaboration with diverse stakeholders (faculty, staff, students, local organizations)
• Demonstrated experience using health promotion models to provide services and supports to underrepresented and underserved student populations, in an effort to work toward a campus community where all members have equitable health and wellbeing related outcomes
• Demonstrated experience conducting programming that captures the complexities that lead to health inequities, including, but not limited to, socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, first generation status, and veteran status
• Demonstrated experience in working with content related to mental health education, sexual violence prevention education, and/or LGBTQ+ student services
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse community and provide education from a non-judgmental perspective
• Demonstrated ability to inspire others to share a vision, such as building a health-conscious campus community
• Demonstrated experience with a traditional college age population for 1 or more years
• Demonstrated experience with learning outcome writing and learning design
• Supervision and/or advising experience
• Ability to handle confidential information, work independently, and work as part of a team
• Experience managing a financial budget
• Respect and appreciation for our Catholic and Marianist values

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide.
