Position Summary:

The Department of Electro-Optics and Photonics (EOP) in the School of Engineering at the University of Dayton (UD) seeks applications for one tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (one position).  The successful candidate is expected to teach EOP and related courses, develop and maintain high-quality, externally funded research, and mentor MS and PhD graduate students.  This position will start on August 16, 2020.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in optics, electrical engineering, physics, or closely related area
• Excellent written communication skills
• For the rank of Assistant Professor:
- A record of peer-reviewed publications
- A demonstrated record of effective and innovative teaching strategies
- Demonstrated experience in writing competitive grant proposals

• For the rank of Associate Professor, all of the minimum qualifications listed above, plus
- Experience of effective teaching at the graduate level in EOP, ECE or related disciplines
- A record of successful funded research

Preferred Qualifications:

While everyone may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following qualifications:

• Specialization in LIDAR and/or laser additive manufacturing (LAM)
• Success in securing funding from national funding agencies (such as NSF, DoD etc.….)
• Ability to work with government laboratories (such as AFRL) or other commercial entities
• Successful record of mentoring graduate students (MS and PhD)
• A proven record of success in a tenure-line (for the rank of Associate Professor)
• Demonstrated commitment to engineering education and engineering practice
• Effective oral communication skills
• Effective interpersonal communication skills
• A demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and diversity
• A demonstrated commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition
• A demonstrated commitment of service to the community, university and profession
