Position Summary: The Department of Global Languages and Cultures at the University of Dayton invites applications for its Lecturer in Spanish position. The primary responsibilities of the Lecturer in Spanish position include teaching courses in Spanish language at all undergraduate levels and participating in departmental activities.
Minimum Qualifications:

 Minimum qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Spanish, Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, or a related field or a foreign equivalent degree.

  • One year experience teaching Spanish language courses at the college level according to proficiency/competency approaches.

  • Experience in the use of teaching technologies. 

  • Experience teaching in the United States system of higher education. 

  • Candidates who meet the above four required qualifications must also demonstrate native to near native proficiency in Spanish and English which will be assessed during the phone interview.

  • Effective classroom management skills

  • Ability to present material clearly and effectively in the classroom. 

  • Ability to successfully employ active learning strategies to foster and maintain student engagement. 

  • Commitment to the effective use of learning resources, including technology, to enhance student learning. 

  • Experience teaching blended-learning courses.

  • Ability to work with an increasingly diverse campus community.

  • Successful experience working as a team member toward shared goals.

  • Commitment to breadth of education including education the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.

A complete application consists of a letter of application, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., student evaluations of teaching, peer/supervisor evaluative reports on teaching), sample syllabus for an introductory Spanish language course, unofficial transcripts of graduate work or foreign equivalent degree. In addition, please upload a document in which you discuss your approach for teaching introductory Spanish courses to non-majors. Please limit your response to 500 words.
