Position Summary: The Structural Materials Division in the University of Dayton Research Institute is seeking a highly motivated and highly talented engineer to provide modeling and simulation for a range of composite-related programs in its Multifunctional Structures and Materials Group. This specific position will support multiphysics modeling using commercial FEA software as well as custom, in-house software. The candidate will be expected to work closely with design engineers, customers, and program leads to design highly optimized, multifunctional structures supporting numerous programs. The candidate will participate in reporting and presenting results, internally and externally, during design reviews. The candidate will also be involved in part fabrication and testing to ensure discrepancies between the model and the manufactured part are captured. The selected engineer may be asked to serve as a remote resource to the Air Force’s Advanced Composite Office to fulfill their FEA needs on an on-call basis.
Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in science or engineering from an accredited university.
• Three years experience in static and dynamic modeling of polymer matric composites (PMC).
• Significant experience and comfortability in commercial FEA packages, such as Abaqus (preferred), Ansys, etc.
• Demonstrated experience in cross-functional teams encompassing design engineers, manufacturing engineers, etc.
• Knowledge of PMC manufacturing techniques.
• Experience in verifying model predictions through empirical testing.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
• Due to security clearance requirements of this position, the applicant must be a U.S. Citizen. Permanent residents (green card holders) are not eligible for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Five years experience in static and dynamic modeling of polymer matric composites.
• Experience with nonlinear materials and geometries, as well as composite damage mechanics.
• Experience with modeling thermal, electrostatics/electrodynamics, and other common composite multiphysics environments.
• Demonstrated successful experiences of properly documenting technical data generated by work projects which can include published technical papers or reports.
