Position Summary:

In Fall 2022, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Global Languages and Cultures will welcome a tenure track faculty member as part of the Latinx and Latin American Studies cluster. This position will join faculty in the departments of English, History, Global Languages and Cultures, Philosophy, and Religious Studies who focus on Latinx and Latin American Studies. The person hired to this position will conduct scholarship, teach existing courses, develop new courses for the minor, and help shape the new major. This person will have an affiliation with the Race and Ethnic Studies program and may also contribute to other interdisciplinary programs. The Department of Global Languages and Cultures offers instruction in eight languages as well as majors and minors in French, German and Spanish, and minors in Italian, Arabic and Chinese. We are seeking one tenure track assistant professor in Spanish or related field, with a specialization in Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx Studies to start August 16, 2022. We seek a teacher-scholar prepared to contribute to the growth and development of the Spanish program as well as the Latinx Studies Minor in the Race and Ethnic Studies Program by developing courses and programming. The expectations of the position include being able to teach Spanish language, Latin American Literature, and Latin American Studies or Latinx Studies courses at all undergraduate levels; maintaining an active agenda of research and scholarship leading to publication; teaching nine credit hours per semester; and contributing to the department, university, and profession through service.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Ph.D. in Spanish or related field, with a specialization in Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx Studies or a foreign equivalent degree at the time of application
- Promise for excellence in:
--research in the field of Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx studies
--teaching and developing courses and programming in Spanish language,      Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx studies at the college level
- 3 years experience as instructor of record in teaching Spanish language courses
- Written fluency in English and Spanish.
- Candidates who meet the above qualifications must also demonstrate oral fluency, which will be assessed during the initial interview.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

- Record of scholarship that specializes in Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx Studies.
- Successful experience in any or all of the following:
--teaching a variety of college or university courses that may include Spanish language, Latin American Literature, Studies or Latinx Studies courses.
--teaching in the United States system of higher education
--working with and teaching socially and culturally diverse communities
--the use of teaching technologies and online teaching methods
--recruiting students to language study
- Interest in collaborating with colleagues and programs in and beyond the department
- Effective interpersonal communication skills.
- Effective classroom management skills
- Commitment to breadth of education including education the whole person in the Marianist tradition and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession
