Position Summary:

The Department of Economics and Finance invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level beginning August 16, 2021.

The Department of Economics and Finance in the School of Business Administration, and houses the Davis Center for Portfolio Management and the Hanley Trading Center. The Davis Center is home to the $35 million Flyer Investments Fund, one of the five largest student-managed portfolios in the country, while the Hanley Trading Center provides students experience in trading derivatives. Finance is one of the largest majors on campus with students regular placing at leading firms in the finance industry. 

Our faculty have an active research culture. Current faculty have publications in top outlets such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Financial & Quantitative Analysis, Management Science, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Financial Management, Journal of Corporate Finance, and the Journal of Banking & Finance. The department also houses the editorial office of the International Review of Economics and Finance. The University of Dayton subscribes to WRDS, in addition to numerous data providers such as CRSP, CompuStat, SDC, TAQ, Bloomberg, and FactSet. 

Faculty are expected to teach courses in the undergraduate program, the MBA program, and in the Masters of Finance program in their specialty fields as well as other core finance courses as needed. Finance faculty also provide some support for the Masters in Financial Mathematics program offered by the mathematics department. A new assistant professor typically teaches a four-course load per year for two years and receives some summer research support. Other responsibilities include service to the department, School, University, and/or profession, and collaborative engagement with colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Ph.D. or D.B.A degree in finance or financial economics or related field before July 15, 2021 from an AACSB or comparably accredited program
- Demonstrated potential to conduct high quality research
- Demonstrated potential to teach effectively

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
- Demonstrated high quality research agenda
- Sensitivity to Catholic and Marianist educational values
- Ph.D. or D.B.A from a highly ranked finance or financial economics department
- Successful experience as instructor of record at the university level at an AACSB or comparable institution
- Demonstrated professionalism and collaboration within the profession
- Successful experience with the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program
- Successful experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated interest in mentoring students from underrepresented populations
- Effective oral communication skills
- Effective interpersonal communication skills
- Technical skills that would add to the range of skills in the department
