Position Summary:

This position will assist the Director in managing intellectual property at the University of Dayton. The position will be responsible for evaluation of invention disclosures for intellectual property protection and commercial protection and recommending a commercialization strategy for the technology to the Director, while also working with inventors to achieve the best outcome for the technology. A successful candidate will be skilled in managing intellectual property projects. The position will require a candidate with a technical background, capable of understanding a diverse set of technologies and their applications. In addition, such a candidate will have organizational skills sufficient to manage and report on such activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
2. Three years of demonstrated experience working with intellectual property commercialization
3. Ability to influence internal and external customers without direct authority
4. Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
5. Exceptional organizational and documentation skills
6. Proven ability to manage multiple projects, including scheduling, budget, and resources, simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications:

While not everyone may possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following:

1. Bachelor's degree in a technical field from an accredited institution
2. J.D. or MBA
2. Four (4) or more years of demonstrated experience in intellectual property commercialization
3. Experience with governmental programs to fund intellectual property development
4. Demonstrated knowledge of contract and intellectual property law
5. Demonstrated experience with patent prosecution
6. Demonstrated experience working with incubators, accelerators, colliders, or related organizations

A federal court on December 7, 2021, issued a ruling that suspends the COVID-19 vaccine requirement that applies to federal contractors nationwide. With this development, the University will pause any enforcement action against employees who have not complied with the requirement to be fully vaccinated by Dec. 8, 2021 or to have requested an exemption to maintain their employment status.
